Every year 3.4 million people around the world die from water-related diseases, approximately 4,000 people a day. Most of these deaths are children throughout the developing world. The greatest need comes from the 788 million people populating sub-Saharan Africa. By drinking from proper safe water sources and education in sanitation awareness, this shocking statistic can be significantly decreased. Throughout Africa, water sources are inconveniently located out of reach of many villages; often a 30 minute walk over mountains and through valleys. Women and children bear the burden of fetching water and often the children’s education is disrupted when leaving school early to gather water before sunset.
