I joined the H2O team with my fiancée and had a blast. Due to my construction background, I was elected as team construction leader with the bio-sand water filters. Over the course of the 2 weeks we were there, we fundraised and donated 18 bio-sand water filters in various schools in Uganda. A neat technology, but one that God had already made when he created the earth—we just put it in a 3' concrete vessel and were able to provide clean water to many children and families to thwart the effects of polluted water that they normally drank. A great expedition and a worthy cause!

Access to fresh water is one of those basic needs that everyone has a right to have and is something that everyone can have access to if we work together. Growing up in a country where I've had my basic needs met, I have felt very blessed, and this has made me want to contribute and give back to others. While teaching English in Shanghai, I met Gerald, the president of H20, and was overjoyed to be asked to be part of H20's inaugural trip to Uganda to build a well and install 20 bio-sand water filters in multiple schools in the district of Kanungu. I believe in H20 because it partners with people in Uganda and utilizes local resources to bring clean water to those who need it.
